This crawl space had standing water, exposed dirt, and enough humidity to warp the hardwood floors above. We removed the soggy old fiberglass, laid a 12-mil reinforced vapor barrier up the stem walls, sealed the vents, and taped every seam. The musty smell that had been coming through the floor registers was gone within a week, and the floors stopped creaking and cupping.
